Occurrence is on a W-facing steep slope of a small ridge above the stream plain of North Fork which joins Anthony Creek 2000 ft. downstream. The ridge is at the southern foot of Middle Mountain just north of Neola and the flood plain of Anthony Creek. Across North Fork are low slopes forested by white pine. To the north and south along the shale slope are areas of more developed soil and mixed canopy species (oaks, hickories, pines). The aspect changes to the south but remains fairly constant to the north.;The patches of virginia pine which dominate this community are scattered within a more dense deciduous forest on the same slope but with more soil development and organic matter. There are also very sparsely scattered large white pines. Just above this level is a grassy high-slope with a mixed pine-hardwood forest.
Representativeness
The plot is very representative of this patchy community.
